PRAGMATISM AND PROBABILITY: RE-EXAMINING KEYNES’S THINKING ON PROBABILITY

چکیده
As we celebrate the centenary of John Maynard Keynes’s Treatise on Probability (1921), are still faced with unresolved, fundamental questions about his foray into philosophy probability. One these unresolved concerns whether Keynes (1931) later changed mind in response to intense criticism from Frank Ramsey (1922, 1931) and abandoned logical theory This essay draws Cheryl Misak’s recent biography (2020) argue that had an even wider influence work than has been recognized, this was not just probability but also economics. Understood fuller context, it seems more clear embraced built upon Ramsey’s subjective The General Theory Employment, Interest, Money (1936).

Lexicographic probability, conditional probability, and nonstandard probability
The relationship between Popper spaces (conditional probability spaces that satisfy some regularity conditions), lexicographic probability systems (LPS’s) [Blume, Brandenburger, and Dekel 1991a; Blume, Brandenburger, and Dekel 1991b], and nonstandard probability spaces (NPS’s) is considered. If countable additivity is assumed, Popper spaces and a subclass of LPS’s are equivalent; without the as...
متن کاملFractional Probability Measure and Its Properties
Based on recent studies by Guy Jumarie [1] which defines probability density of fractional order and fractional moments by using fractional calculus (fractional derivatives and fractional integration), this study expands the concept of probability density of fractional order by defining the fractional probability measure, which leads to a fractional probability theory parallel to the classical ...
متن کاملProbability Logic and Logical Probability
Many writers who entertain the use of subjective probability or credal probability for, among other things, the evaluation of expected values of options in decision problems insist that such credal probability judgments should be determined by the agent’s “available evidence” or “available knowledge”. Notable 20 century examples are H. Jeffreys (1921, 1951), J.M. Keynes (1921), R. Carnap (1950,...
متن کاملRe-examining hope: The roles of agency thinking and pathways thinking
A considerable amount of research in hope is driven by Snyder’s (1994) model which proposes that hope is positively associated with agency thinking and pathways thinking. However, the current research suggests that hope as understood by the layperson (Hope) is only associated with agency thinking and not with pathways thinking. This was found over four studies using different agency and pathway...
